- Most payday lenders skip FICO-style checks but use specialty consumer reporting agencies and your bank history.
- Truly no-check options exist: pawn loans, employer advances and many cash advance apps.
- “Guaranteed approval” and upfront fees are scam signals.
What “no credit check” usually means
When a payday lender says “no credit check,” it nearly always means it will not do a hard inquiry with the three major credit bureaus, so applying should not lower your FICO score. The lender will still verify who you are and whether you can repay. That usually involves:
- Specialty consumer reporting agencies that track payday, installment and other subprime loans. Clarity Services (owned by Experian) and FactorTrust (owned by TransUnion) are common examples. Unpaid short-term loans show up there.
- Bank account data: regular deposits, overdrafts and returned payments.
- Identity and fraud checks using your Social Security number and contact details.
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, specialty reporting agencies must give you a free copy of your file on request, and you can dispute errors just as you would with a regular credit report.

What no-credit-check loans cost
Payday lenders commonly charge $10–$30 per $100 borrowed. At $15 per $100, a two-week loan works out to about 391% APR. The lack of a credit check is part of why the price is high: lenders charge more to cover the risk. Use our cost calculator to see the real APR of any offer.
Amounts, fees and terms depend on your state. Some states ban payday loans or cap rates at 36%, so lenders do not offer them there. See payday loan laws by state.

Request a loanFrequently asked questions
Are there really payday loans with no credit check?
Most payday lenders do not pull your FICO score from the major bureaus, but they usually check specialty databases and your bank history. True no-credit-check options include pawn loans and employer advances.
Will a no credit check loan hurt my credit score?
Applying usually does not affect your FICO score. But if you default, the debt can be sent to collections, which can be reported to the major bureaus.
Can I get a cash advance with no credit check?
Yes. Many cash advance apps base your limit on your direct deposits rather than a credit check. Fees vary by app.
What credit score do I need for a payday loan?
Payday lenders generally do not set a minimum credit score. They focus on income, bank activity and specialty reports.
